Q: How and when did Mialessot begin?
A: In early 2000, I was working on a silent film with a friend of mine. I wanted to make a soundtrack that could drive the plot of a narrative story rather than dialogue. A modern-day Kammerspielfilm. We finished a short 8 minute piece that was to be the template for a larger film that was never completed. That led to sound experiments that began to take a life of their own without the need for film. My first project for Mialessot was finished in December of 2000. I illustrated the poem 'Angoisse'
(Anxiety) by Stéphane Mallarmé. I chose the poem for my first record because the mood of the poem seemed to fit the mood of some guitar work I had been doing. That's how it started. It has changed so much since then.
Q: Where did the name originate?
A: Mialessot is a magickal name given to me, an esoteric or veiled word emanating from the subconscious. Originally I wrote the word while in a trance-like state. I found it in my own handwriting the following day and it struck me as something of significance. I kind of saw it as a name for a fictitious enigmatic, literary character; it rang out like the name Maldoror or Melusine or Melmoth the Wanderer to me.
